Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a promising treatment for atrophic acne scars.  PRP contains proteins and nutrients that help heal the body from the inside out. PRP injections and micro-needling can help plump the skin and slowly heal scars over time.  PRP can be combined with microneedling to improve clinical outcomes. 

PRP therapy can also help repair surgical scars, including those from a caesarean section. PRP works on both new and old scars to stimulate collagen and elastin fibers.

 

PRP therapy for atrophic scars is a treatment that involves withdrawing a patient's own blood, processing it so that only the enriched cells (platelet-rich plasma) remain, and injecting it into the skin. Platelets contain α-granules, which release growth factors that stimulate collagen synthesis and aid in wound healing. Due to the natural variation in quality of platelet-rich plasma, results will vary between individuals. Some patients may require multiple sessions to obtain desired outcomes.

 

Radiofrequency (RF) treatments can help reduce the appearance of scars by breaking down scar tissue and remodeling collagen. The thermal energy from the radiofrequency beams treats deeper layers of skin while leaving surrounding tissue untouched. This can help prevent or break down existing scar tissue.
